The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2006 states that a company must appoint a sufficient number of people to perform evacuation duties, as well as ensuring that all the fire safety systems within the premises are fully functioning (e.g. fire alarms, emergency lighting, extinguishers etc.)

This course is designed for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide first aid when dealing with an emergency situation. At the end of the course participants will be able to demonstrate the practical administration of safe, prompt and effective first aid in emergency situations with an understanding of the role of the first aider. Successful participants will receive an Emergency First Aid at Work certificate, valid for 3 years, after which the learner will need to retake the course in order to remain qualified.

The First Aid at Work (St John Ambulance) training course provides the comprehensive set of practical skills needed by first aiders in most workplaces to become a confident first aider at work. Giving both the ability and knowledge to deal with first aid emergencies. It meets the standards required to help comply with Health and Safety (First aid) regulations.

Assessment

Continuous observation by the trainer and written assessments. Candidates need a basic command of English (defined as Level 2). So whilst we are often able to provide support to people who for example do not have English as a first language, our ability to do so is limited by the time available and the number of people who require assistance, although we may be able to make special arrangements if requested in advance. Please contact us if you need any guidance.

Certification

Successful candidates receive a St John Ambulance certificate, valid for three years.

This course is aimed at candidates who are entering or already working in the construction or civil engineering industries. It provides them with understanding and awareness on health, safety and wellbeing. On successfully passing the exam candidates will receive a Construction Skills Health & Safety Awareness Certificate. Candidates can use this certificate, once they have also passed a CITB Health Safety & Environment Operative Test (CSCS test), to apply for their CSCS Labourers card.

This course is for first line managers and those who have or are about to acquire supervisory responsibilities. It introduces health, safety, welfare and environmental issues for those requiring an understanding of their legal responsibilities relevant to their work activities. It will provide a sound knowledge base to enable them to give valuable assistance in safely managing a construction site.

The Institution of Occupational Health and Safety (IOSH) is a globally recognised chartered body that promotes the highest standards for workplace health and safety. The IOSH Managing Safely course is designed for any individual, across numerous sectors, that has a responsibility for managing the health and safety risks, resources and workplace practices for their organisation. This course is three days in duration and covers the core responsibilities of anyone who manages workplace Health and Safety. To successfully complete the course the candidate must pass a 45 minute exam to access their learning, as well as a practical assessment that will demonstrate the application of the knowledge which has been gained throughout the course. Once the candidate has passed the exam then they will be issued with an IOSH Certification.

This is a competence-based course for operatives and supervisors. It covers the key element in the new Roads and Streetworks Act. All candidates must have previous experience in construction. On completion of the course, candidates will be able to monitor streetworks, excavations and reinstatements to the standards prescribed by City & Guilds and be awarded a SQA Certificate and Streetworks Registration Card.

This awareness course, certified by City & Guilds, offers an Introduction to Legionnaires disease, the control of the bacteria and the current regulations that relate to this. This course is usually attended by H&S Managers, Building Owners, Facilities Managers and some contractors.

Duration: 2 days

This course, accredited by City & Guilds, is specifically designed for the Responsible Person or Duty Holder in accordance to the HSE Approved Code of Practice. Candidates that attend this course will have day to day responsibility for the management and control of Risks created by Hot and Cold-water services that may present a risk.

This course helps ensure candidates are safe and competent to use Mobile Elevated Work Platforms. Operators can choose for their course to include the following:

1a – Static Vertical – Vertical personnel platforms (Static)
1b – Static Boom – self-propelled booms, trailers and vehicle mounted platforms
